Jon Ruben admitted 17 charges at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained items including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his family member notified the police about his concerns.

She said the defendant proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative explained the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.

She said the defendant then played the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
